Categories: infantry movies
Running time: 95 minutes
Three French soldiers find themselves stranded behind enemy lines when during German invasion their unit just disappeared.
During the 1940 campaign in France German units forced French army to retreat. The 7th Company of Signal Corps is no exception - they drove their trucks into the woods and planned to make a short rest. Captain Dumont orders Sergeant Chaudard to establish lookout point on the top of nearby hill. Chaudard takes Pitivier and Tassin with him and they extend the cable so they could warn unit if they will spot the Germans. On the top of the hill they found a cemetery, which was perfect for their purpose - they see the nearby area and have chance to eat something. But while they were eating their tinned food Germans have found their cable and thus located 7th Company. The whole unit is taken prisoner by the Germans. When Chaudard realizes that the contact with unit is cut off they set out to find out what happened. Since the company is obviously gone they have no other option than stay undetected and find the way back to French lines. But there are few problems - first of all the supplies that are running out. While visiting one of the nearby houses Chaudard discovers Lieutenant Duvauchel, a pilot of plane that was shot down this morning. Duvauchel joins them and becomes their commander. Unfortunately his way of doing things is different and his plan is more ambitious.
French comedy set during the Battle of France when in a chaos caused by German invasion three soldiers are cut off from their unit and later discover they have to find a way to get back to French line. A typical 1970s comedy with slow paced story, not very impressive jokes, but overall a decent piece of entertainment that is in a way similar to Dad’s Army - nostalgia with a hint of comedy.

War films are not always showing the war per se - often the main theme is the influence of the conflict on lives of people involved, but also their families and friends. War is seldom a local thing - the trauma, the pain, the death they put their mark on people from around the world.
